Blue Mountain Barrel House in Arrington, Virginia, is a favorite Harvest Hosts stop for us. We've stayed there three times...or is it four?

North Bend Park has a very large campground with more than 230 campsites, may of them with direct water access.

Campsites at White Oak are tucked among the trees and have been upgraded with fresh gravel and new (non-weathered) timbers).

Sherando Lake Recreation Area, located near Lyndhurst, Virginia in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is a popular park with three campground loops.

Zoll Vineyards is a small and relatively new vineyard. They offer house-made wine, cider, sangria  and mead, and a full kitchen.

Machicomoco State Park in Gloucester, Virginia, opened in 2021. At 645 acres, the park is large -- but the campground is small.

Pocahontas State Park, located in Chesterfield, Virginia, is a large park with a large campground -- 129 RV sites, plus cabins and yurts.

Belle Isle State Park in Lancaster is a gem on Virginia's Northern Neck.

Kiptopeke State Park is the only state park on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.

We camped at Longwood Park for five days before the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend, with the intent of avoiding the holiday crowds and the noise that come with them. Our plan worked out and we had five beautifully quiet days, pulling out just as the holiday crowd was pulling in. 

Stone Bridge Equestrian Center in Natural Bridge, Virginia, is a short drive from I-81 and a good place for a quick stopoff.

On our way home camping from Claytor Lake State Park, we stopped at Cunningham Creek Winery in Palmyra, Virginia.
