Machicomoco State Park, Hayes, Virginia

Machicomoco State Park in Gloucester, Virginia, opened in 2021.

At 645 acres, the park is large -- but the campground is small. There are pull-through and back-in RV sites -- most large enough accommodate larger rigs.

The RV camping loop is open with few trees for shade, so plan accordingly. We were fortunate. Our site (18) had two large pine trees for shade. The tent-only sites were set back among the trees.

We found the most interesting thing about this campground was the bathhouse. It's a new design with individual, private unisex stalls. No men's or women's bathrooms or showers. Each stall can be used by anybody, and most of them are handicap accessible. Watch the video below to see what the bathhouse looks like.
