Sherando Lake Recreation Area, Lyndhurst, Virginia

The only place to get cell reception inside Sherando Lake Recreation Area is on top of the dam.

Sherando Lake Recreation Area, located near Lyndhurst, Virginia in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is a popular park with three campground loops, a swimming beach and hiking trails.

The three loops are White Oak, Riverbend, and Meadow. We camped in the B-loop, River. The sites here are nice and roomy with a fine gravel parking surface. There are no water hookups or spigots in the campground loops--you have to fill up at a station in one of the parking lots. There is 30 and 50 amp service in the Riverbend and Meadow loops.

Each site has a picnic table, food storage locker (this is bear country), a pole for hanging a lantern, a cooking platform and a fire ring with an adjustable grill and hook.

Recommended Nearby

Waynesboro is a short drive from the campground. We recommend a stop at Basic City Beer Co. for lunch and beer. The menu is basic bar food--pizza, burgers, wings, etc.--but well done.
