Taylorsville Lake State Park is located about 30 minutes from Louisville and close to some of the area's best bourbon distilleries. The campground has 42 improved campsites with electric and water, 15 primitive sites, group camping for larger groups, 10 pull-through equestrian sites on their own loop.
We camped here for three nights in late September/early October and found the park somewhat full. When we arrived, the gate attendant informed us that we could not use a propane grill or cooktop outside due to dry conditions; the following day, the ban was lifted (we heard a judge was involved and a common-sense decision was made).
The campsites are large and have fine gravel parking area. The bathhouse here is nice and clean. The showers had hot water with good pressure.

I mentioned earlier that we used our stop at Taylorsville Lake as a home base for visiting distilleries. A note: Reservations for tours and tastings can fill up weeks or months in advance. Book online as early as you can.
We stopped at Angels Envy in Louisville, which makes one of our favorite bourbons.
We weren't able to take a tour, so we sampled their offerings in their nice tasting room and picked up a few things in their very large retail store.
Louisville has a funky, artsy neighborhood called "NuLu," for "New Louisville." There are nice shops, restaurants, taphouses, and events.
