If you would like to visit Acadia National Park, but want to have hookups, or you were unsuccessful in booking a site inside the park, Bar Harbor Campground is a great option.

Our reason was the first--plus we were meeting my brother and his wife who have a 36-foot Class A who wanted to camp there. At the time we booked our reservations, it had recently been purchased by Modern America Campgrounds. Previously, it was family-owned and no reservations were taken--first come, first served and cash only.

As we were planning our trip, we selected a water and electric site from the online map and hoped for the best.

As it turned out, the campground was great! Our site had plenty of room for our camper and truck, plus a view of the water! Bar Harbor Campground a short drive to Acadia, and if you don't want to drive, the Island Explorer makes regular stops here and transports you to the park visitor center and town for free.

Lobster! There are several lobster pounds nearby. The Bar Harbor Lobster Pound, a very popular spot, is located across the street from the campground. They serve traditional lobster dinner, lobster rolls, tacos and ice cream.

Bar Harbor Edens Farmers Market. This market takes place on Sundays roughly from May through October at the YMCA parking lot on Main Street. We stocked up on fresh veggies and bread.
